Ray Meas was recognised as Senior Aerobic Gymnast of the Year for 2011 at the recent SAGF awards evening. Anne Vermaak was recognised as Senior Aerobic Gymnastics Coach of the Year for 2011!

It is a true honour to be recognised by the National Federation.

Matthew Cloete and Kian Africa represented WP to their absolute best. Having dedicated extra training hours and under the strict guidance on Coach Sadicka they came up trumps at the SAGF Rope Skipping National Championships

Matthew won gold for freestyle in the level 1 13&under section and Kian won silver for speed, freestyle and overall for level 2 11&under.

Rachel Kenyon, Kian Africa and Matthew Cloete all represented Flairs at the WP Gymnastics Regional Competitions.

Rachel won the gold medal for Aerobic Gymnastics Level 2 individual section. Matthew also won the gold medal for the Rope Skipping Level 1 13&under section and Kian won the bronze medal for Rope Skipping Level 2 11&under section. Matthew and Kian will represent WP at the SAGF National Championships in October.

Aimee Cloete & Ray Meas represented WP at the SAGF Aerobic Gymnastics National Championships for level 8-10

Aimee once again walked away with the gold medal for the level 8 individual women section and Ray the gold medal for Level 10 individual male section.
Ray also walked away with the Zoutendyk trophy for the 5th year in a row. This trophy is given to the gymnast with the highest score in the competition. Well done Aimee and Ray, we are very proud of you!

Our superstar, Ray Meas, finished 6th in the finals of the Portugal Aerobics World Cup event on Sunday 20th May. Ray competed against a very strong field just two weeks before the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships, in the perfect preparation competition. Ray qualified for the finals in 8th place beating two Russian gymnasts for the last spot in the finals. Correcting his mistakes from qualifications in the finals, Ray scored the 5th highest score together with a French gymnast, but ended 6th after the tie-breaker. This is a brilliant result and we are extremely proud of Ray.

Flairs Gymnastics and two of its gymnasts featured prominently at the 2011 WP Gymnastics Awards evening.

Flairs Gymnastics walked away with the recognition of Club of the Year for Aerobic Gymnastics! Congratulations to all the Aerobic gymnasts who contributed to the club winning this award!

Rachel Wood and Ray Meas were recognised for their participation at the Summer Universiade in China, as well as Ray being recognised for his 7th place at the Suzuki World Cup.

Ray and Rachel were also recognised for their gold medal wins at the 2011 National Championships in Mixed Pairs and Ray in Individual Men.
 

Congratulations to Kian Africa (Little Lions) who won Flairs Gymnastics first National Rope Skipping medals when he walked away with the GOLD OVERALL for Level 1 , as well as the gold medal for freestyle and the silver medal for speed at the South African Gymnastics Federation’s National Gymnastics Games on 3 & 4 October 2011. Kian was an absolute hit with the crowd, and he got the velodrome all clapping for him, especially during his freestyle when he completed it with bonuses without one mistake!

Congratulations to Kian, who is our first Western Province representative in Rope Skipping at a National Competition. Thank you to coach Terrence for all his hard work in preparing Kian for the competition!


 

Rachel Wood and Ray Meas were part of Team South Africa who took part at Summer Universiade in Shenzen, China from 14-24 August 2011. This is the first Universiade that Aerobic Gymnastics has been included in the Games.

The Summer Universiade is a multi-games event for all Olympic Sports, yet only athletes between the ages of 17 and 28 may participate and they must be registered and studying at an accredited University.

As both Rachel and Ray are MBCHB students at Stellenbosch University they were eligible to attend the even. They were due to compete in the Mixed Pairs section, unfortunately Rachel fell ill just before going on stage, so they could not compete. They did, however, hold the South African flag high when they performed their routine in the Closing Ceremony, impressing the judges with their performance

 

Three gymnasts from Flairs Gymnastics competed at the SAGF Nationals Championships for Aerobic Gymnastics on 2 July 2011.

Aimee Cloete walked away with the silver medal in Level 8 Individual Women. This was Aimee’s first competition at the Junior International Level. This has given her a great boost towards her participation at trials for African Championships later in the year.

Rachel Wood and Ray Meas competed a clean routine for the gold medal in Level 10 Mixed Pairs. This was a great practice competition for their preparation for the Summer Universiade in Chine, where they will be competing in August.
